Tesla short shortsTesla

Summer is here and you can now dress appropriately for it by donning a pair of bright red short shorts made by Tesla.

That's right, the EV maker has launched short shorts for sale on its website, and the internet is going nuts.

What started off as a joke by Tesla CEO Elon Musk has now become a reality. As we reported last week, Tesla's stock went up to a record high after Q2 deliveries soared for the company.

A Tesla summer

If owning a Tesla wasn't quite enough to satisfy you, you can now get a pair of teeny tiny shorts to match your crimson red electric vehicle. If you don't own a red Tesla, you'll just have to make do.

The reason the shorts are currently for sale began as a joke. Elon Musk posted on Twitter to tease Tesla shorts of all the money they were losing as the company's stock rose to $1,200 per share.

"Shorts" means the people who short sell stocks, essentially betting on the price of a stock going down.

So Musk's Twitter post taunted these shorts by stating "Tesla will make fabulous short shorts in radiant red satin with gold trim." Amazingly, he was not joking around.

On Sunday, Tesla posted a pair of bright red satin with gold trim short shorts for sale on its website, next to Tesla vehicle accessories and apparel.

The company's site description of the shorts is as follows:

"Celebrate summer with Tesla Short Shorts. Run like the wind or entertain like Liberace with our red satin and gold trim design. Relax poolside or lounge indoors year-round with our limited-edition Tesla Short Shorts, featuring our signature Tesla logo in front with “S3XY” across the back. Enjoy exceptional comfort from the closing bell."

It didn't take long for internet-goers to launch themselves on the $69.420 product, which brought the site crashing down for a short while.

The cost of the product is funny in itself, with 69 joking on the juvenile quip, and 420 is not only another youngster joke but also the initial price Musk planned to take Tesla private a few years ago.

Dang, we broke the website

Regardless of how overpriced and, quite frankly, tacky (yet fun), the shorts may appear, it's safe to say that most likely thousands of people will purchase a pair of them. Get ready to see a number of people either walking around or lounging by lakes and poolsides with these bright red numbers this summer.
